Local Affiliates

What is a Communities In Schools Local Network Affiliate?

Communities In Schools Local Network Affiliates are locally-defined organizations that work to develop and harness community resources, bringing support into schools and community locations to help students to successfully learn and complete their education.  Each affiliate organization is headed by an executive director and a board of directors leading the charge for student success in their communities, developing programs and services that students need to be successful.

Using a community development approach, Local CIS affiliates build partnerships that bring needed community resources and services into their schools to help students successfully learn.  Big or small, rural, urban or suburban, all communities have resources that can be tapped to help strengthen schools and students.

As each community is different, Communities In Schools affiliate programs throughout Georgia vary greatly in strategies employed, populations targeted and services offered.  This diversity in programming is by design - local CIS affiliate programs can direct their resources toward the most pressing issues facing education in their specific community.  This flexibility in the CIS process makes for programs that are more efficient - tailored to the specific needs and resources available at the local level.

Start a Local Communities In Schools Affiliate in Your Community

Local Communities In Schools Affiliates start through the interest and hard work of concerned citizens like you. Communities In Schools of Georgia can help your community on the road to starting a successful CIS affiliate that will help improve outcomes for students and schools in your community.

The process begins with what CIS calls "the magnificent seven"- a local task force comprised of community leaders, the private sector and public sector, government, communities of faith, parents and students. The task force is charged with first identifying needs and resources in their community with the help of the CISGA Community Development Department. If the task force decides that CIS is a good fit for their community, CIS of Georgia will help lead your community through development of your local CIS Affiliate tailored to your unique community.

Communities In Schools of Georgia is waiting to help your community start the process. Give us a call today!
