High School Graduation Coaches
In 2006, Governor Perdue introduced Georgia’s High School Graduation Coach Initiative that placed “Graduation Coaches” in 369 high schools across the state. This is the first program of its kind to be implemented statewide. In collaboration with the Georgia Department of Education’s School Improvement Services, Communities In Schools has partnered to provide training, support, and technical assistance to those coaches. Graduation Coaches identify students who are at-risk of school dropout and provide “whatever it takes” to help those youth become successful graduates who are fully prepared for post-secondary education and/or the workforce.

Middle School Graduation Coaches
Recognizing that the dropout problem often starts before high school, the Governor and General Assembly authorized funding to place Middle School Graduation Coaches in middle schools throughout Georgia beginning with the 2007-2008 school year. These Middle School Graduation Coaches will help ensure the successful transition of all students from elementary school and provide comprehensive prevention and intervention programs for at-risk middle school students to help prepare them for their high school and post-secondary careers.

Community Coaches
The “Community Coach” concept was also created in 2007 as a result of Governor Perdue’s challenge to Georgia’s business community to support education in our state. Business leaders across the state have volunteered to partner with High School Graduation Coaches to provide a conduit to the business community. The Community Coach will assist the Graduation Coach by enlisting community support, recruiting volunteers, sharing ideas, providing real world experience to students, and serving as a community-based advisor.
