Our mission is to surround students with a community of support,
empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Who We Are

Communities In Schools of Georgia in Albany/Dougherty County is part of the state’s leading organization providing drop-out prevention, connecting the most vulnerable students to the support they need in the classroom and beyond.

We provide services to over 2,300 students in Dougherty County Title 1 Public Elementary and Middle Schools each year with high concentrations of poverty and 300 students with significant needs outside the normal scope of school

In addition, during COVID-19 lockdowns we provided direct services to 345 parents.

Our Solution to the Drop Out Crisis

Through a school-based coordinator, we bring community resources into schools to empower success for all students by removing barriers for students at risk of dropping out, keeping kids in schools and on the path to graduation and leveraging evidence, relationships and local resources to drive results.

Our Goal and the Five Basics©

Our goal is to support youth, improve graduation rates, academic achievement and job and post-secondary school readiness.

Programs don’t change kids, relationships do. Our philosophy is embedded in the CIS five basics for kids©, which focus on building a supportive environment for children and youth to help them thrive and be successful.

  • A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult. The First Basic is a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult. …
  • A safe place to learn and grow. …
  • A healthy start and a healthy future. …
  • A marketable skill to use upon graduation. …
  • A chance to give back to peers and community.

Impact Report

In this time of crisis, CIS staff go beyond school walls to get basic needs items to families, connect students to mental health resources, and reengage them in learning—in the classroom and virtually. View Our Results and 2020 Case Managed Student Outcomes now.
