A Champion for Garrett Middle School
CIS Site Coordinator Timothy Parham loves working with youth, and it shows in everything he does to support the students of Garrett Middle School in Marietta.
“I’m gonna be there as a support system for them. And I’m gonna be able to SEE THEM GRADUATE.
The students make life so bright when they come into this office and they want to be here. They want to do the activities. They want to do random acts of kindness for teachers here. They want to do something special for their family.”
He credits the school staff for the freedom to connect with kids in fun ways, like having a basketball net in his office, and for giving him the opportunity to make his role with Communities In Schools one where fun and creativity have a daily place to thrive.
“What made my life easy is the principal here, Miss Brown. She lets me give the way I want to…” —Timothy Parham, CIS Site Coordinator, Garrett Middle School
“Communities In Schools has been at Garrett Middle School for three years. Mr. Timothy Parham is our current Site Coordinator. He does an outstanding job of mentoring our students. He takes an active role in meeting with the students about grades, academics, their behavior and just being involved in the overall school. We are so appreciative of everything that he does. He is A CHAMPION for Garrett Middle School.” —Kristie Brown, Principal, Garrett Middle School
“He (Timothy) has his own special way, unique way, of connecting with students. That’s the first step, to build those relationships. In order to have another person here to help deal with all these personalities, all these different needs. And actually be able to connect with them. And for the kids to come to him and be able to share information. And us be able to talk about things, it’s like having another person who’s connected so the information is spread better. Catch things in advance. Prevent certain things from happening. His presence is huge.” —John Nwosu, 8th Grade School Counselor, Garrett Middle School
“When I first got here I had a bad attitude and I didn’t want to be here. But now that I’ve been to 6th grade, 7th grade and now I’m in 8th grade, and I met Mr. Tim, and I met all my teachers, they helped me make myself a better person.
I really like my small group because it’s a group that other people are on the same mindset as me. We can all help each other be better so we are coming up with ideas to do things to MAKE THE SCHOOL A BETTER PLACE where people might want to learn and have fun.” —Monica, 8th Grade, CIS Student, Garrett Middle School
