Communities In Schools (CIS) of Wilkes County recently hosted its legislative delegation to speak on the General Assembly’s challenges for the upcoming year and to provide information on CIS and its initiatives to serve at-risk students in the community.

Political figures who attended the event included: state representatives Tom McCall and Mickey Channell, state senator Bill Jackson, staff members from US Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss’ offices as well as local elected officials.  Close to 60 members of the community also attended and were able to interact with the legislators and discuss issues within the community.

The purpose of the annual event, which began in 1997, is to share CIS programs and initiatives with legislators, and hear about Georgia fiscal and political concerns, that affect the local community.
