Rashad: Reaching Academic Goals

When Rashad was referred to Communities In Schools in elementary school his teachers were concerned about his attendance. And, even as time went on, during his 6th grade year, Rashad was still not meeting his potential academically and involved with peers who constantly got in trouble.

Since then, Rashad has expressed that with the guidance of CIS he became motivated to become a better student. Then, In October of 2023, Rashad was acknowledged for being the Student of The Month. He said that when he first got a letter from his teacher, he thought that he was in trouble…

Rashad said “being recognized is a big deal” because he has come a long way academically and behaviorally. Also, in November of 2023, he was celebrated for having Honor Roll for the 1st Nine Weeks.

Rashad’s story is truly a testament of what having a caring adult who is there providing motivation looks like. Now, his goal is to encourage his group of friends to become Student of The Month before the school year ends.

Rashad has been a CIS student for 5 years and is currently a 7th Grade student at Radium Springs Middle Magnet School of the Arts where Mrs. Marlisha Lumpkin serves as his site coordinator.
