Student Achievement Month 2015

Student Achievement Month (SAM) is one of our favorite times of the year. This annual event recognizes CIS students, grades K-12, who are sometimes overlooked and often expected to underachieve. SAM boosts student’s confidence and helps them set new goals and gain a better understanding of the importance of academic achievement and succeeding in school.

Hundreds of CIS students throughout Georgia participate. Our sponsors help CIS provide prizes valued up to $1,000, including scholarships for high school seniors.

East Point-20150202-01072Evelyn is an elementary school student. Through a CIS summer reading program, she improved her behavior, grades and attendance. She was so proud when she made the Never Been Absent (NBA) Team. She had perfect attendance and was never tardy to class. Evelyn’s CIS site coordinator kept her and other students on the right track by providing encouragement to all to do their best and rewards for positive results.

Angelique Jennings 3-16-15Angelique’s site coordinator helped her overcome the stress of being a senior with the many responsibilities of applying for college, scholarship searches, testing, etc. She was happy that her site coordinator helped her obtain math tutoring that actually improved her scores and provided assistance with completing college and scholarship applications. She also appreciated the job shadowing opportunity her site coordinator arranged and the volunteer opportunities. A volunteer highlight was when she helped distribute toys to disadvantaged kids during the holidays. According to Angelique, CIS helped her find strength, confidence and knowledge to equip her as she completes her senior year and prepares for college.

Congrats to both of these regional winners and wish all of our regional winners luck in the finals!

State winners will be announced the second week in April and will be honored at a luncheon on May 7 at the downtown Hyatt Regency. If you would like to purchase a table of 8 for the SAM luncheon (with a student/parent at your table), the cost is $2,500. You can also purchase 4 seats to the event for $1,500.
