Making an Impact in her New Role
Communities In Schools of Georgia is Proud Partners with Americorps and this is possible because of staff members like Rashonda Jackman!
Rashonda dedicates her energy into making this partnership an impactful experience for both CIS Students and Americorps members.
AmeriCorps members provide group and one-on-one tutoring to prepare students for academic success. Plus, they strengthen communities by recruiting volunteers for service projects ranging from neighborhood clean ups, food and clothing drives, and emergency assistance. AmeriCorps Members will accelerate at-risk students’ progress in areas such as Fulton County, Troup County, Milledgeville-Baldwin County, Glascock County, Richmond County, and Dodge County.
I love the AmeriCorps program so much because I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA from 2009-2010. Ever since that year, I wanted to be more involved in supporting members in their service. CISGA gave me that opportunity. After growing with CISGA in other program areas, I’m excited to be able to return to an AmeriCorps role as the new AmeriCorps Program Coordinator. Many of the members that are finishing their final year of the program this year were starting when I began as the Assistant. It’s interesting that my return comes at a time when I still recognize so many names and faces.
