Communities In Schools (CIS) of Georgia will once again be participating in Georgia Gives Day sponsored by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits on November 13. The event was created as a way to raise awareness of nonprofits and provide an easy way for Georgia residents to support causes they are passionate about throughout the state.

As you may know, Georgia’s graduation rate of 69% ranks the state amongst the lowest in this country, and incarceration rates are among the highest. These issues cost our state billions per year in lost tax revenue. By decreasing the number of high school dropouts, even by one or two percentage points, we can begin to have a positive effect on the economy through decreased demand for social services and the costs of crime prevention and incarceration.

If you have not already donated to CIS of Georgia (the state office), consider making a tax-deductible donation on Georgia Gives Day. Our state office works with Georgia’s network of 39 locally managed affiliate programs and 14 CIS Performance Learning Centers® to help school districts improve graduation rates. Affiliates receive pass through funding, research and evaluation data, as well as marketing and communications support. Additionally, CIS of Georgia’s technical assistance and training creates opportunities for local affiliates to engage community leadership, strengthen relationships with school systems and increase parental support.
